Needs

The sector's request

The European Interreg Italy-Croatia project, ADRINCLUSIVE, was launched with the aim of developing a dedicated and recognisable tourism offer for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, together with their carers. The project aims to train staff at tourist facilities to welcome people with dementia and to create a support network that facilitates the organisation of meaningful events and activities, thus promoting more inclusive and sustainable tourism in the Adriatic area. Through innovation and technology transfer, it will enable the creation of new tailor-made services, improving the accessibility and quality of tourist experiences for all.

Solution

Adrinclusive's response

ADRINCLUSIVE brings together the expertise of seven partners who contribute their experience in different sectors: from associations working to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers (AFAM and FMA), to innovation centres (RomagnaTech) and representative bodies of the territories concerned (Municipality of Brindisi, NoviGrad, RERA). The main outputs:

  • Development of a joint strategy: the partners will jointly develop a strategy based on the needs of the target group and best practices, identifying skills gaps among tourism and welfare operators to be addressed with jointly designed training modules.
  • Joint pilot actions: five joint pilot actions will be carried out, offering personalised and sustainable holidays for people with dementia and their carers.
  • Site visits and dissemination events: the partners will organise site visits and dissemination events to present proven solutions.
  • Dissemination and replication kit: the results of the pilot actions will be collected and shared with key tourism and welfare stakeholders for wider adoption.

Replicability

Other possible fields of application

The systemic approach used in the project, which combines domain-specific and cross-cutting skills, as well as the jointly produced tools, such as guidelines and training tools, can be adapted and replicated in other contexts (e.g. not only in tourism but also in other cultural and recreational activities) and in other areas (e.g. not only cognitive disabilities).
