With a view to expanding its offering in the poultry farming sector, VEM Sistemi Spa has developed a package of IoT-based digital solutions aimed at optimising the production process, increasing meat quality, reducing the use of antibiotics and improving the working activities of supply chain operators. With particular reference to feed consumption, VEM Sistemi expressed the need to develop an engineered prototype of a feed weighing system.

The project began with a preliminary phase of requirements study and application analysis, followed by a technical-economic feasibility study aimed at analysing and evaluating possible solutions in terms of both architecture and technologies used. After identifying and evaluating the most promising solution in detail, the design, implementation, testing and optimisation phases of the prototype were activated. The final output was a prototype system for in-line feed weighing, complete with CE certification and manuals.

The technology adopted is applicable in other applications for weighing granular materials.
