Needs

The client's request

The client, operating in the high-performance automotive sector, needed to accurately monitor temperatures on components made from advanced materials, such as composites, subjected to extreme operating conditions. The objective was to prevent thermal degradation and ensure the functioning of integrated electronic systems, avoiding failures that could compromise vehicle performance. The monitoring had to be reliable, non-invasive and compatible with the complex geometries of the components, without altering their mechanical characteristics.

Solution

Romagna Tech's response

Romagna Tech developed a prototype thermal sensing device that can be integrated directly into the component, designed to operate in environments with temperatures up to 125°C. The system includes:

  • Hardware optimised to withstand vibrations and mechanical stresses typical of the automotive sector.
  • Firmware dedicated to sensor management and data transmission via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), ensuring low power consumption and communication stability.
  • Software for validating functionality in the laboratory and in real conditions, with tests in a climatic chamber and on a vehicle. The completed phase involved prototyping and technical review of the device, with particular attention to the robustness of the design and regulatory compliance (CE, RED, Cybersecurity). This approach has resulted in a working prototype, ready for further industrialisation steps.

Other possible fields of application

The solution is highly replicable in contexts where thermal monitoring is critical for safety and performance. In addition to the automotive sector (motorsport, electric vehicles), it can be applied in:

  • Aerospace, for thermal control of structural and electronic components.
  • Power electronics, for systems operating in high-temperature environments.
  • Advanced manufacturing, for machinery and processes that require continuous thermal monitoring.
